Applications: Lewis lung carcinoma is a cell line established from the lung of a C57BL mouse bearing a tumor resulting from an implantation of primary Lewis lung carcinoma.
Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).
The cells are resistant to 1,3-bis-(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea, but are sensitive to methotrexate.
This line is widely used as a model for metastasis and is useful for studying the mechanisms of cancer chemotherapeutic agents.

Propagation: ATCC complete growth medium: The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium, Catalog No. 30-2002. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%.

Subculturing: Protocol: Subcultures are prepared by diluting the suspension 1:4 to 1:6. Cells on the floor of the flask may be dislodged by aspirating several times with culture medium or by rinsing with 0.25% trypsin - 0.53 mM EDTA solution.
